Artist’s Bio
Originally from Osaka, Hikida Sayaka works as an assistant to a Tokyo fashion photographer. She is influenced by the work of Ryan McGinley, whom she admires for the harmony he achieves between humans and nature. Originally working as a magazine and book editor, she found herself drawn to photos she was editing, and eventually decided to be a photographer herself.
Although she shoots both film and digital, she feels she can communicate better with film when she can control the developing and printing. Her winning shot utilized her Canon EOS 5D Mark II, but she also uses a Hasselblad 500CM. As a child, her mother shot an SLR, which helped fuel her passion for photography.
Why I needed the Pro-8Air and two Profoto D1 500w Airs for this shot:
I wanted to make simple dark shadows, so I used a white softlight reflector. I also used a big black reflector on the model's side. In particular, I prefer to use just one light. I really like Pro-8's light. It's responsive and I do not miss the important moments, as I have with other lights.
